This was (&remains to this day) a stellar piece of work. The story revolves around a young kid, Nicky, who is recruited by Dr.X to kill various religious & political figures. Dr.X has a roster of people under his sway, including Sister Mary & a priest. The story begins with Nicky in hospital, coming out of a 'sedative high', remembering the events that have brought him there. (If you pay attention, news of all this is being broadcast on a TV in Nicky's room as he drifts in & out of consciousness). The musicianship & production on this album are both stellar. I had the good fortune of seeing Queensryche perform this album in its entirety in late 2005 at Red's, in West Edmonton Mall. They followed this up with a 'part II'. Both parts I &II are available on video as 'Mindcrime at the Moore', both parts recorded live at the Moore theater in Seattle, where the band is from.

Iron Maiden & Judas Priest were experiencing flops (7th Son for Maiden, 'Ram it Down' for Priest), Metallica were on their 1st headlining arena tour in support of '...And Justice For All'. Through all this (and much more), Queensryche released 'Operation:Mindcrime'. This was (&remains to this day) a stellar piece of work.
