The gig was fairly well attended. It was the 1st time I'd seen Striker. They really impressed me that night. I was blown away that those dudes were from right here in Edmonton! I bought their CD 'Eyes In the Night' that night for $10. Superb production & musicianship. They went on to open for Metallica in 2011 or 2012, (in Edmonton). Hetfield & crew were doing a mini tour to film what became the movie 'Through the Never'. As far as I know there were 4 dates; 2 in Edmonton, 2 in Vancouver. The Vancouver shows formed the concert portion of the movie. The guys made an error there I'd have to say, 'cos the Edmonton crowds were more rabid. The venue - Haven Social Club - has since closed its doors. I believe they (Striker) lost a guitar that night. Anyhow, six years - and some personnel changes - later, and Striker are still putting out quality music. The clip below is from their 2nd album, 'Armed to the Teeth'.

This was a late summer gig. Cover was $5. The opener was a local act called 'Zions Abyss'. As I recall, there was a crowd of about 150-200. At one point, someone brought a tray of shooters onto the drum kit. A band rep informed them that 'noone in the band drinks!' They took the shooters away. Jeff Waters &co were excellent that night. They were touring behind their 3rd album, 'Set the World on Fire'. The encore was 'Alison Hell' & 'Hell Bent For Leather' by Judas Priest. I think they had previously spent some time opening for J.P. Awesome night! I look forward to seeing Jeff Waters &co. again @ the Starlite Room on June 17, 2017. Comments? So, over 3 years ago, I changed my billing preference to an e-bill, since I was being charged $2 for a paper bill. Whatever, fine. However, it has come to my attention that I don't always get the e-bill on time. For example, I just happened to go to the Telus website to check my balance; found out I had a bill due on Apr 9th. Ordinarily, that bill would've come to me about mid-March, giving me ample time. I checked my inbox; no Telus bill arrived in March. It makes me wonder, was this an oversight or is Telus trying to fish late charges out of me (and possibly others)? |
