So, I was looking forward to seeing this movie, & I've gotta tell y'all, it didn't disappoint!! The story: a secret tribe of Amazons live on a hidden island paradise.s They are fierce warriors who live off & respect their environment. Only women reside on this island, no men. So WWII breaks out & the Amazons are completely oblivious; that is until Diana (Gal Gadot aka Wonder Woman) rescues a downed British fighter pilot- with an American accent- from the ocean close to shore. Nazis are hot on his tail, so they soon show up in pursuit. The American (Chris Pine) helps Diana(WW) & her sisters fight them off. The Amazons take casualties & the American falls under suspicion. At this point there's some mythology about the creation of the world & a war among gods. Diana believes that her new friend's arrival signals the fulfillment of a prophecy. She believes the God Aries is behind the Nazi assault and that, if she can just kill Aries, she'll save humanity. Although she's never left her island paradise before, she is tough, to a supernatural degree. She finds that saving humanity is a lot tougher than she ever thought & goes through some culture shock. No matter what happens, she never gives up & does her damnedest to stay true to her Amazonian values & beliefs. She is downright shocked when Chris Pine tells her:'we can't save everyone Diana'. In her close knit Amazon tribe everyone is valued &no Amazon left behind. The immensity of the suffering staggers her & she has to learn some tough lessons. I won't give away any more; this is an epic movie, that , yes, takes some liberties with history but is epic nonetheless.

So, I got down to the venue early, about 6:30. A few people were lined up. I decided to go away & come back. About 7:00 the lineup had grown. I took my place in line, chatted with a few people. One guy was wearing a 'Sacred Reich' t-shirt, another 'Mercyful Fate/King Diamond'. The show was set to start @ 8:00. Doors didn't open 'till close to 8:40. (Staff said it was due to soundcheck by one of the bands - they didn't say which one). The first opener, Mutank, played fairly decent thrash metal. The second opener, Mason (?), who I think are from Australia, I wasn't too impressed with. The main event - Annihilator - took the stage somewhere between 11:20- 11:40. Jeff Waters kept going to the side of the stage for the first few songs. 'Hey, I'm 51, I need a nap between songs', he said. They played 'King of the Kill', & 'Annihilator', amongst others naturally. I left during the start of 'Set the World on Fire'. Pretty solid crowd for this gig, nearly full. Someone want to post a comment on the rest of the gig? So, are rewards programs like Air Miles,PCpoints, Shoppers optimum, etc are all they're cracked up to be? Consider the following scenario: An establishment has a loyalty/rewards program in effect. And the program is pretty simple - For every $40 spent, the patron gets a free stick of beef jerky. Some compulsive dude walks in, spends$40 to 'earn' the free jerky. He does & gets a warm, fuzzy glow 'cos he got something for 'free'! Little does our intrepid hero consider that he could've just walked in & bought a stick of beef jerky for $1 if he wanted. If you're a frequent flier anyhow it(loyalty card) doesn't hurt but don't allow yourself to be duped by this false allure of 'free rewards'. |
