This is a solid album, and the first to feature John Bush on vocals. From opener 'Potter's Field' to the closer 'This is Not an Exit' the musicianship & production sparkle. There is one ballad on the album, 'Black Lodge', perhaps Anthrax's answer to 'Nothing Else Matters' by Metallica? Joey Belladonna, after being ejected from the band, released a solo album on Mausoleum records. I confess I've never heard it. Unfortunately, this album,SOWN, which was set to be a breakthrough for Anthrax, never got the respect & recognition it deserved. They released several more with John Bush, which I have heard snippets from. As most people know, they reunited with Joey Belladonna in 2010/11 for 'Worship Music'. I've got no idea what John Bush is doing nowadays. The man's got a powerful voice & good stage prescence.

A fairly good sized crowd showed up for the gig tonight. The opener was a band called 'Elm Street' from Australia. They were fairly decent. I especially enjoyed the cover they did of 'Metal Health' by Quiet Riot. UDO came on right @ 9:00. They played a lot of classics, including 'Aiming High', 'Breaker', 'Bulletproof', 'Objection Overruled', 'Midnight Mover' and 'Fast As a Shark'. The encore was 'Princess of the Dawn', 'Metal Heart', and -of course - 'Balls to the Wall'. The band was solid and tight. The sound was also very clear, not muddy. If my intel is right, Udo's son was the drummer. The bass player looked to be in Udo's age range. The two guitar players were noticeably younger. Solid players, all of them. I think a great time was had by nearly everyone tonight. Comments? |
