He had his own personal bodyguard that accompanied him in & out of the venue. The gig ran about 90 minutes. I didn't get out of there until late that night. Seriously sore the next day. Good times. Oh yeah, the venue was packed & there was no opener.
I worked this gig in the capacity of a roadie. I was part of the local crew. The venue was some nightclub in WEM; not Red's. Perhaps 'The Joint'? Anyways, I got down there around 10-11AM to load-in. Billy's crew & the guys from All-Star (Show Industries) were real pro. There was a lull as the band (minus Billy) did their soundcheck. Billy was nowhere to be seen 'till showtime. He made his entrance at 10PM sharp, started off with 'Dancing With Myself'. They played all the hits, including an acoustic version of 'White Wedding'. As I recall, the gig was on a Friday night; at the Colliseum, naturally. Econoline Crush opened up. This was a sold out show. Kiss were excellent that night. They opened their set with 'Deuce'. Their set consisted entirely of their 70s material. They didn't play anything past 'Dynasty'(1979). I just walked into this place yesterday, after repeatedly going by it on the bus. They've got quite a varied selection. I bought 3 cd's: AC/DC- Blow Up Your Video; Heart - Greatest Hits; Ozzy - Diary of A Madman.
They were just $5 each. Anyhow, this neat little gem of a place is a little off the beaten path; 150 Street & 110 Avenue. Wide variety of cd's, lp's, & cassettes. Until next time, true believers.... |
