1. "Beyond the Realms of Death" JP/1978
2. "Devil's Child" JP/1982
3. "Night Comes Down" JP/1984
4. "Life in Black" Fight (Rob Halford solo project) 1993
What do these 4 songs (and I could've picked out more) have in common? The lyrics were all written by Rob Halford. Furthermore, all 4 could reasonably be considered to be depressing (lyrically). LIB & Beyond... are both tied (in my books) as most depressing. Contrast this with Iron Maiden who, besides "Still Life" on Piece of Mind, are generally not. Hell, play "Screaming For Vengeance" over & over, & I'll bet you'll feel depressed. Don't get me wrong, I am a BIG fan of Priest & Halford. This just seems a little strange to me.
Switch now to KK Downing: After reading his book, "Heavy Duty: Days & Nights in Judas Priest", it seems clear that certain hardships he endured affected the music. In all likelihood, it's a similar sort of thing with Rob. He's (Rob) mused publicly about publishing his own memoir. Wouldn't that be something?
