I just saw an excellent WWII movie, 'Hacksaw Ridge'. The movie centres on an American conscientious oblector who enlists in the U.S army to serve as a combat medic. This is based on the true story of Desmond Doss, played by Andrew Garfield. I am glad to see war depicted as something brutal & wholly unpleasant, as opposed to it being 'cool'. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of Stallone in 'Rambo' but that's entertainment. The power of the human spirit is truly astounding. This is particularly poignant these days when far too many of us settle for madiocrity. It was directed by Mel Gibson, who, as many will remember, was villified for going on an anti-semitic rant 10 years ago. To those who hold on to that I say, goddamnit, it's been 10 years! We've all done things in our lives we regret. And the person who makes no mistakes, doesn't do diddly-squat! As the Buddha said: to completely avoid criticism"say nothing, do nothing, be nothing". I'll get off my high horse now. And, at the risk of repeating myself, if you have any interest in human potential, WWII, war in general, or the military go see Hacksaw Ridge!

I was at the grocery store the other day & saw cases of Coca-Cola Life. After seeing the ads on TV I was wuite intrigued by this new product. "Sweetened with natural sweeteners", the ads proclaim. However, one look at the ingredient list & hope turns to dismay. Sugar is still the 2nd listed ingredient on the list. So, while there is some natural sweetening (stevia I believe) the product is far from being completely "naturally sweetened". I decided not to buy it & - to date - have not tried Coca Cola Life. I checked t he Coca-Cola website & there they do admit that the sweetening is done by a combo of cane sugar & stevia. I still think that this should be mentioned in their ads. Comments? |
