As always, the band - an Iron Maiden/Judas Priest tribute - played the Priest set first, as it was easier to play & easier for Mike to sing.
During the 2nd set, Iron Maiden, I was scheduled to make an appearance as Eddie, Iron Maiden's mascot. Aside from that, I was operating the lights. During the song "Powerslave", I realized that I was wearing the wrong t-shirt. I was wearing a Megadeth t-shirt & had left my Tyrant shirt back at the hotel. I quickly thought of a solution: I would approach a fan wearing an Iron Maiden shirt, persuade them to change shirts with me. Problem solved, right?
Well, not exactly. During the slow section of "Powerslave", the lights could be left in place - with the stage darkened but not completely - for a short while. I scanned the audience, found a suitable target. I left the lighting board, approached this fan & began explaining the situation. Unfortunately, midway through my explanation, which took a little longer to explain & the fan to comprehend than I had anticipated, the song started up again. Mike (Shaw, the singer), jumped off stage, ran over to me & yelled: "RAHUL!! THE LiGHTS, MAN!!"
I immediately ran back to the lighting board & resumed my duties. The fan approached me as it was obvious that I was not bullshitting. We traded shirts & all turned out well.
I had some explaining to do after the gig was over. Sylvain, the bassist, said: "you're usually pretty reliable so don't sweat it" (or words to that effect).
The video below is NOT taken from that gig but features the same line-up.
